Today, Metalurg starts preparing for the following season. Players’ first training is scheduled for today at 17.30 in Avtokomanda hall. Renato Vugrinec is the only one excusably absent while Dejan Manaskov at the beginning will train according to a special regime since he recovers from the injury.

Metalurg’s director, Levce Kitevski announced the following statement in the daily newspaper Nova Makedonija:

“In my opinion team of Metalurg is stronger compared to last season particularly since this summer new players arrived, Pavel Atman, Nikola Kedzo, Dejan Pecakovski, Nikola Markoski and Sergrej Zedik. On top of it all we managed to keep the structure of the team.”

Preparations, including the tournament in Struga are developing in several stages in order for the handballers to get ready for the qualification matches of the Champions League against Pick Szeged.

“Metalurg trains in Skopje until August 1. After that we head for Zlatibor, Serbia where we’re staying till August 10. The handball tournament in Struga takes place on August 13 and then we return to Skopje. On August 28 is the first clash with Pick Szeged in the frames of Champions League’s qualifications” says Kitevski.

Metalurg keeps promoting effective Macedonian players by including seven young players of Metalurg Junior in the senior squad- Marko Nelovski, Filip Talevski, Borjan and Bojan Madzovski, Nikola Kostevski, Martin Manaskov and Zarko Peshevski.

Youngsters deserved to play in the first team with a vengeance. It remains to see which competition is a better chance for them and that will probably be the Regional League” claims Kitеvski.

Metalurg is facing a double match against the Hungarian Pick Szeged for placement in the Champions League (August 28- 1 September).

“We’d like to revive the last year success when we reached the quarter final of the Champions League. Our opponent, team of Pick Szeged is not a naïve team. Hungarians kept the game pillars, as we did with some players. Our advantage is that we have continuity with the coaching of Lino Cervar while Szeged has a new coach for the following season” Kitevski explains.
