Icelandic handballer Kari Kristjan Kristjansson (28) was laid off from his team of Wetzlar since he allegedly played for Icelandic selection against Slovenia.

Namely, Kristjansson asked for the club’s permission to travel to Iceland in order to treat his back injury, but everyone got surprised when he showed up in the strip of the Icelandic representation on the match against Slovenia, which was won by the Icelanders with 29:28, and Kristjansson himself scored two important goals.

“I randomly watched the game between Slovenia and Iceland and I was almost shocked seeing our Kari in Icelandic strip when we sent him there for recuperation. We are very disappointed from this behavior of his. We consider this as an insult and deal breaking and that’s why we immediately terminated the cooperation”, said Björn Seipp, Wetzalr’s manager.

However, Kristjansson doesn’t seem worried by the sack. His contract expires this June anyway and he already has arranged transfer in the team of Silkeborg.
